Why Vision is Vital

By Nat Crawford

The modern leader must construct and cast a well-planned vision. A leader must be able to back up their belief and conviction in the vision. Without this conviction and commitment to vision, your team and your organization will be lost. When problems arise your organization will not be prepared to handle it.

What is a vision? A vision is a clear picture of your organization running in its ideal state. This vision is created by dreaming. Dreaming inspires us and creates a perfect world. This creates enthusiasm when we start acting as if the dream were already true. This enthusiasm will spread throughout your organization
.
In 1985, Rotary International felt convicted to take on the daunting task of wiping out the disease of polio. Their dream goal of was total eradication by 2005. Over 350,000 people were infected worldwide in 1988. In 1994, the Western Hemisphere was deemed polio-free. In 2000, that number was reduced by 99%! To date, Rortary’s PolioPlus program has vaccinated two billion children and raised over $400 million. They continue to dream big and accomplish seemingly impossible tasks.

Organizations that want to be great must have leaders who are always casting a vision of the direction they want to go and the type of organization they desire to be. This creates a culture of ownership. A culture of ownership will not sink, but outlive and outperform its competitors.
