We all have experienced hard times. Sometimes we get the tremors before it
hits. Other times there is no warning. Regardless of how, when, or what the
adversity is, we can prepare in four key areas: emotionally, physically,
spiritually, and logically.
Any trial will hit one, if not all of those four areas. Problems caused by
death, kids, work, money, or education will impact us all at some point.
Because we know this reality, we can prepare (to some level) in each of the
four areas.
Emotionally - The tank that empties first in hard times is your emotional
tank. It is often being drained from the circumstances and the people it's
affecting. One thing you can do is engage in neuro-linguistic programming
(NLP). Take the time to prepare mentally for the types of adversities you may
face. What are the likely emotions you will emit? Knowing this you can anchor
yourself to respond differently when the warning signs appear. Second, have an
outlet that you can be refilled emotionally. It should be one of your core
friends or family who is not in the trial, but who wants to see you persevere
through it.
Physically - One of the things to go during rough times is sleep and
exercise. We become worried, distracted, and over-extended resulting in exhaustion.
Make it a priority to rest to recharge your body. Exercise releases important
chemicals that assist in a positive mindset as well as gives you more energy to
face the tasks.
Spiritually - Faith is one of the most important values. You must have it to
want to persevere. You need it to see potential in today, tomorrow, yourself
and others. Take time to reflect and pray. Seek truth and you will find it.
Logically - Think of the possible scenarios that could bring strife. What
are the strategies you can implement to navigate around and over them? Maybe
you are not a financial planner and aren't a numbers person. Find someone who
is. Maybe you are not the expert in your area at work. Find some training so
you can become the expert. There are things you can do to prepare. The best
thing is that you don't have to do it alone.
Don't be caught unprepared when trials strike. Have a plan and have people by your side.
