One of the best parts of CLS is our John Maxwell Mastermind Groups. We bring together five to ten people for eight weeks to learn, grow and develop long-term relationships. Our current group, which is the best group we've ever had, is studying The 15 Invaluable Laws of Growth. Last week discussed The Law of Awareness. Here's what we learned.
The Law of Awareness says "You must know yourself to grow yourself." We discussed the importance of identifying your passion and your purpose. We at CLS believes each person was made on purpose for a purpose.
So what do you do if you do not know what your passion and purpose are? John suggests asking six questions.
- Do you like what you're doing now? If you don't like what you're doing then quit! It makes no sense to be paid to do something you hate. You suffer, your peers suffer, and your organization suffers.
- What would you like to do? Once you identify your passion it creates emotional jet fuel to drive you to achieving your goals.
- Can you do what you would like to do? Maybe you want to be a pro-wrestler, but you're fifty years old and traded a six pack for a keg in your midsection. This dream may be out of reach. Things you are not good at pursue as hobbies, but never as a career.
- Do you know people who do what you would like to do? Jim Rohn says you become the average of the five people you spend your time with. Are you seeking out the people who possess the abilities and careers you want to be in? Find them and make them part of your core.
- Will you pay the price to do what you want to do? To go up, you need to grow up. This means counting the cost and writing the check. So count the cost carefully and see if you're willing to make the sacrifices to achieve your passion.
- When can you start doing what would would you like to do? The good news is you can start today. Don't settle for inauthentic goals and dreams. Take even a small step today to pursue your passion and your purpose.
We'll leave you with the same challenge we left our group last week: What are one or two specific steps you can make now to get more fully engaged in what you want to do in life? Now, go do it!
