Plato said, "the life which is unexamined is not worth
living." If this is true, many lives are wasted.
What you do each day, who you encounter each day, or where
you go each day does not matter unless you evaluate each experience. To say
experience is the best teach is false. The examined experience produces answers
to impact your tomorrow and beyond.
Too many people go through their days, have experiences then
go home and turn on the TV and pass out. We do not understand this approach to
richness of life's experiences. If you always do what you always did, you will
always get what you always got. This is what happens when you leave the day
unevaluated.
Each one of us is born with a notebook that is blank. Your
number of pages is reflective of the days appointed to you. Take the time each
day and write in that journal the answers to the following questions:
- What did I learn today?
- How can I apply what I learned today?
- How can I teach others what I learned today?
Reflection allows growth to catch up with you. If the Pareto
principle (80/20 rule) is true, then 20% of your actions produce 80% of the
results. Reflect and see what gives you the greatest ROI. Take the time to
pause each night for just five to seven minutes and reflect.
Let's interact. What kinds of things prevent you from taking
the time and effort to evaluate your experiences?
