4 Leadership Lessons from the Techno Viking

By Nat Crawford

Never did I think I would actually blog about leadership principles found in the viral video The Techno Viking. I bet the Techno Viking never thought there'd be a blog about it either. In case you haven't seen this video, check it out below.

Now, I'm not crazy. There are 4 leadership lessons found in this short clip. 4 lessons that any great leader knows and applies. Check out these lessons below and then re-watch the clip. The lessons will jump out at you.

  1. The STAR Method - Some guy comes walking through the crowd and bumps into a gal dancing. He has some disruptive behavior to the culture and activity of the group. The Techno Viking sees this and Stops. He quickly Thinks about what happened and what he can do. He then Acts and redirects the problematic person out of the environment. Last, he Reviews what happened. He thinks over his actions and the outcome and observes the revolve. To be successful in life and business, you need to constantly apply the STAR method.
  2. Clear Communication - In his brief encounter with the problematic person, he is succinct and efficient with his communication. In little time, the message is clearly and effectively communicated so the culture is unaffected by his behavior and maintained by his departure. Our Viking then clearly communicates such disruptive behavior will not be tolerated with his eyes and outstretched arm. Remember people will respond to what you do rather than what you only say. Great leaders are effective communicators
  3. E + R = O - Jack Canfield made this equation famous in The Success Principles. We all have Events or Experiences. Life happens to us. It our Responses that make the difference. Do we lose our cool when bad things happen or do we manage our emotions like our viking friend. His response gave him the Outcome he desired. So remember, great leaders maximize their responses to maximize their outcomes - regardless of the event.
  4. Celebration - Let's be honest. The Techno Viking knows how to celebrate. He's got the moves to prove it. Great leaders know to celebrate from time to time. They recognize those unique moments that possess a teaching opportunity or perhaps its just a small or even a big win. Celebrate each one of those moments. Remember, what is rewarded and celebrated that gets repeated. Highly effective leaders celebrate well.
There you have it. If you are going to be a great leader you'll need to apply these lessons to your own life. They've made a huge difference in my own life and business. I know they'll change your life as well.

What are some other leadership lessons you see in this video? How have you applied some of these lessons to your own life and business? Please comment below! I'd love to hear from you.
