John and I recently returned from Vail, CO where attended the SCORRE Conference. We do plenty of speaking and teaching, but we were sweating bullets over this conference. We knew to get better at our trade, we needed to be coached. Coaching means vulnerability and a willingness to change based on feedback. Well, we not only survived the coaching, but grew exponentially because of it.
I don't care if you're not a speaker, blogger, pastor, or something similar. You need to attend the SCORRE Conference. Why? Because you are communicator. We all communicate. Granted some better than others, but we can all become more dynamic in our communication.
Now that I've experienced the conference and become a practitioner of the SCORRE method, I know every person should attend the SCORRE Conference because of 4 reasons.
The World-Class Talent: Ken Davis, Michael Hyatt, and Michele Cushatt lead the conference.
Ken Davis has been teaching this for over thirty years. He's traveled the world making people laugh through his dynamic communication. Ken also is the author of Fully Alive: Lighten Up and Live.
Michael Hyatt is the former CEO of Thomas Nelson Publishing, blogger, and author of Platform: Get Noticed in Noisy World.
Michele Cushatt is an author, blogger, and emcee of the Women of Faith conference.
Not only do they teach you, but you have access to them. I sat and talked with each person multiple times and picked their brains. Those moments were priceless.
The SCORRE Method: SCORRE stands for: Subject, Central Theme, Objective, Rationale, Resources, and Evaluation. It's okay for me to share that. It's no secret.
To be honest, I've been speaking to and teaching audiences of up to 400 at a time, but I never had a method to the madness. I would have a theme and would throw together a talk. Was the message good? Yes. Was it great? No. Now I have the method and tools to create a great talk, blog, or class every time.
My friend Mike Licona attended this conference a few years ago. He told me if I want to be an effective communicator, I need to not only attend it, but immerse myself in it while there. He was right. I took my prep time very seriously each day and it paid off.
The Caring Coaching: Each attendee is assigned a coach. I met virtually all the coaches in Vail. Each one was caring, corrective, and committed to their people.
Each day you get your nighltly speech approved by your coach. After prepping a few hours, you present to your coach and group. You then get encouraged, critiqued, and coached to higher levels of performance. In a word: PRICELESS.
The Long-Term Friendships: Your time at SCORRE is what you make it. It doesn't matter if you are introvert or extrovert. It doesn't matter if you are a connector or not. You will walk away with a band of brothers (or sisters) who will be your friends for life.
There is something powerful about struggling and growing side with an intimate group that creates bonds that won't break.
Thousands of indivudals including authors, bloggers, speakers, business owners, missionaries, pastors, and wealth managers have attended this event. I hope you'll join the ranks of SCORRE graduates on your journey to becoming an effective communicator.
