Stay on Target - What Do You Want?

By Nat Crawford

We are all guilty of getting distracted from the things we really want. We head to the grocery store to get milk and what happens? We turn our heads and see Fruit Loops on sale, so we grab a box. Then we look down the aisle and see the jumbo sized mayonaise is half price. When we leave the store we have purchased our one needed item along with twenty others.
A simple piece of advice: Do not pursue what you don't really want or need. Stay on target. This is ideally simply, but very difficult in practice. Part of the problem is we do not take time to identify what we really want. We generally want everything! If you don't believe me, go to your garage, your basement, your storage unit and look at your stuff. We all have tons of stuff, but no real use for it.

Those things represent your money, your time, your focus, and your energy. The result is stuff forgotten about left in a box in a dark room. This is sad knowing we could have invested those resources on things that matter. The chorus of Cat Steven's "Cat's in the Cradle" is haunting:
"And the cats in the cradle and the silver spoon
Little boy blue and the man on the moon
When you comin home, dad, I don’t know when,
But we'll get together then, Son,
You know we'll have a good time then."

Take time to clearly define what and who you desire. What are the things that last and how can you invest in them? Once you know who and what, STAY ON TARGET.

Do not desire a piece of everything because you will ultimately gain nothing.
